The following information is a basic guide to establishing a working PPPoE connection with Aquiss broadband connections when using PFSense 2.8+. This should establish a connection in most cases, however, some Aquiss products may also need a VLAN ID to be supplied, in which case we recommend using the guide shown at
https://support.aquiss.net/en/knowledgebase/article/vlan-id-setup-guide-pfsense-routers instead.
A special thanks to our customer, James Wolf, who has created this guide.
Enable PPPoE ModuleSystem -> Advanced - NetworkingEnable if_pppoe - the new kernel PPPoE module - this should provide better overall performance.
Check the if_pppoe option and save/reboot
General ConfigurationInterfaces -> WANSelect PPPoE in IPv4 configuration type.

Other NotesAquiss support RFC 4638 (jumbo frames for PPPoE) so it is also possible to adjust the MTU of your interface to 1508, eliminating the 8-byte overhead for PPP/PPPoE encapsulation, to do this, navigate to
Interfaces -> WAN and set the MTU to 1500, as below (configuring the MTU here as 1500 will automatically adjust the interface MTU to 1508).
